Witchcraft Murders: Five people suspected of witchcraft burnt alive in Kenya

Incidents of witches being killed or burned alive is no more a strange fact. A large number of men, women and children are branded as witches and then killed through out the world.But this time this horrific incident was caught on a video of people beating and burning alive alleged witches in Nyamataro, near Kisii town in Kenya. The victims were older people (80 years and above), and four of the five were women.Last year, on May 2008, eleven elderly people accused of being witches have been burned to death.

This graphic, inhumane murder and burning of victims captured on the video left me stunned and horrified. Some of the victim tried to crawl out of the ditch where they were being burned,but they beaten mercilessly, kicked and dragged back. The human cruelty captured in this video clip is beyond belief.

Mob Justice Kenyan style !!!

These are the pictures of a married woman caught having extra-marital affair with another man in Kenya. Then the self-righteous mob decided to punish her for going against the societal norms. She was stripped and made to parade naked on the streets under a cry of derision from a hostile, self-righteous and barbaric crowd. The man who is her partner (extreme right in a blue shirt with no pants), seems to be one of those mocking her here. In first picture, he is partially dressed but in the next picture, he is completely unclothed.

The treatment meted out to the women is not only barbaric but also inhuman. How can a person feel excited, when a woman is being stripped of her rights and basic dignity. These reveal the sorry state of women and children in our society today.
